My drunken husband tri:ed to shame me in front of my coworkers, but I did something that made him bitterly regret it.
There are turning points in life when you suddenly understand: this has to stop. When the world you’ve carefully built for years collapses in front of everyone. For me, that moment arrived on what should have been a joyful evening – a banquet held in honor of my husband’s achievements.
I kept enduring, never interfering, always standing behind him, so much that many of his colleagues barely knew I existed. He constantly told me I hadn’t accomplished anything in life, that without him I’d be nothing, and that he merely pitied me. I believed it.
I tried proving him wrong, but the only words I ever heard were:
– You’re just a wife. Remember your place. So there it was – another evening, crowded with guests.
Voices humming, glasses clinking, congratulations echoing. He was the star of the night, while I sat beside him, like an elegant ornament. Everything seemed ordinary… until he raised his glass.
He stood, holding his drink high:
“Thanks to everyone who helped me succeed. Though truthfully, it was all my work. Just me.
And you, sweetheart…”
