He’s never made her feel like anything less than his own.
Susan, however, played nice when Mark was around but treated Lily coldly when he wasn’t.
One day, I found Lily crying. She said Susan told her she wasn’t part of the “real” family and would leave once I gave Mark a “real” baby.
I was furious.
Mark brushed it off at first, claiming Susan didn’t mean it. So I gathered proof—recorded her cruelty with hidden cameras and saved every backhanded comment.
Then came the final straw.
When we bought a new SUV, Susan told Lily she couldn’t ride in it because it was for “real family.” I showed Mark the footage.
He was stunned. We confronted Susan over dinner, where she celebrated my “real grandchild” after we announced I was pregnant. That’s when I played the recordings.
Mark finally stood firm. “If you can’t accept Lily, you’re not part of this family.” We told her we were moving into a new home and cutting ties.
A year later, Lily held her baby brother in her arms. I snapped a photo and sent it to Susan—no return address.
Just a note in Lily’s handwriting:
“From the family you tried to split.”
