I took a deep breath and sat down, my mind racing with possibilities, each more unsettling than the last. The photographer, Mr. Caldwell, leaned over the desk, his expression a mix of apprehension and sincerity.
“I’m sorry to have alarmed you,” he began, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I felt you needed to see these before anyone else.”
He opened the laptop and clicked through several folders until he found the one he was looking for. As the first image filled the screen, I blinked in confusion.
The photo seemed normal enough—a candid shot of David and Jessica laughing during the reception. I leaned in closer, searching for whatever anomaly had prompted this midnight meeting. “Look here,” Mr.
Caldwell said, zooming in on a particular part of the photo. “Do you see anything unusual?”
It took a moment for my eyes to adjust, but then I saw it—a faint, almost imperceptible figure standing in the background, partially obscured by the crowd. It was a woman, dressed in a style that seemed out of place at a wedding, her expression solemn and her eyes fixed directly at the camera.
“Who is that?” I asked, my voice strained. “That’s the question,” he replied, clicking to the next photo. In this one, the mysterious figure appeared again, closer this time, her features more defined but still unfamiliar.
